Block Island, Nantucket and Marthas Vineyard

USA - 18Aug-23Sept 2012

We are still taking pictures and will upload them as soon as we can.

Pat and I returned to Hampton Va on the 18th of Aug and after a busy few days set off in one direct hit, 2 full days & nights sailing to NE of New York, Block Island from there to Cuttyhunk, overnight anchor and onto our real objectives of Nantucket and Marthas Vineyard, holiday home for the rich and famous of America. It was everything we had imagined and we have had a wonderful 2 weeks in this unique area. Since then we have spent 3 days in Newport Rhode Island on the mainland, see blog then left for a move West to the Mystic River which had been recommended by Jim. From here we moved after two nights to anchor at the Thimbles in Long Island Sound for one night then further West into Long Island Sound to the picturesque and quiet Oyster Bay just 20nm from New York (see blogs). 2 nights here to catch up with work and plan the New York passage through the East River and Hudson to our home for 5 nights at Liberty Marina.
After a somewhat fractious night worrying about traffic, bridge heights, Tides etc. we entered New York City with no problems on a beautiful sunny morning of the 14th September.
We simply had an action packed fantastic 6 days in New York, Manhattan and New Jersey, see the blog for more detail and some pictures .
Later on Thursday 20th we sadly left back South to Virginia and the Marina we first entered the USA at the South end of Chesapeake, arrived early Saturday 22nd September.
